For me, it has always been a dream to compete on this kind of stage, especially in a V8 stock car. I\u2019ve always loved stock car racing, whether it\u2019s Super Race here in Korea, V8 Supercars in Australia, stock car racing in Brazil and Argentina, or NASCAR in the United States. It\u2019s such a pure form of racing and the level of competition is incredibly high, so to finally be here competing in the Super 6000 honestly feels surreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The journey to reach this level has taken years of sacrifice, hard work, and preparation, not only from me but from my family as well, especially my father who has supported me throughout my entire career. When I first arrived in Korea, I was overwhelmed with emotion. I was excited, grateful, and honestly still trying to process the fact that I was finally here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The moment I saw the car sitting in the garage, that\u2019s when everything finally felt real. For the entire two weeks before the first round, I don\u2019t think anybody could find me without a smile on my face. I kept calling my parents, my friends back home, and even the karting students I coach in the Philippines because I was just so proud and thankful to be competing at this level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the opening doubleheader, I felt even more motivated. Driving the Super 6000 car made me feel alive. It confirmed that this is where I want to be and the level I want to compete at. I\u2019m incredibly thankful to Chans Racing, Mr. Peter, and Mr. In-Chan for believing in me and giving me this opportunity along with Race Engineering Director Mr. Kim, Sporting Director Mr. Young, Mechanical Director Mr. Yum and all of the hard working mechanics. I\u2019ll never take it for granted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Radical is significantly lighter and relies heavily on aerodynamics. It\u2019s very much a point-and-shoot type of car where carrying momentum and maintaining minimum speed through the corner is extremely important. Because of the aero platform and lightweight chassis, the car feels very balanced under braking and changes direction extremely quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Super 6000, on the other hand, relies much more on mechanical grip, weight transfer, and tire management. You can really feel the weight of the car under braking and acceleration, especially the forward dive under braking and the rear squat under power. The softer tire compound also creates a completely different challenge because tire degradation becomes a major factor throughout the race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another major difference is the power delivery. The Radical uses a motorcycle engine, so the power is concentrated more in the higher RPM range. The Super 6000 has much more low-end torque, so understanding throttle application and weight balance becomes extremely important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Radical rewards commitment and aggression through high-speed corners because of the aero confidence it gives you. The Super 6000 rewards patience, finesse, and understanding how to rotate the car efficiently without overdriving it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing I noticed immediately is that in the Super 6000, you really drive the car with both your hands and your feet. You use throttle and brake inputs to help rotate the car and manage the balance. It\u2019s a very technical and rewarding style of driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, I believe the Radical was an excellent training pathway for this transition because it teaches you commitment, precision, and confidence at high speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round 1 was a very important learning experience for me. It was my first time driving the car, my first time racing at the circuit, and my first time competing at this level of motorsport, so the priority was really to maximize every lap and learn as much as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because the level of Super 6000 is so high and the testing opportunities are limited, every session becomes extremely important. I think we had a solid qualifying considering I was still adapting to the car and understanding the behavior of the tires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the race, I focused on building comfort with the car, understanding the race pace, and learning how to fight wheel-to-wheel with the drivers around me. In Round 2, I felt much more comfortable and confident in the car. I understood better the tire degradation, braking behavior, and how the car evolved throughout the race distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My approach was to stay patient early on, preserve the car, and gradually work my way forward throughout the race. I didn\u2019t want to over-push at the start and compromise the tires too early because the races are much longer than what I was previously used to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the race progressed and I became more comfortable, I started pushing more and finding opportunities to overtake. The strategy worked very well, and I was able to move through the field and climb into ninth place after running as high as eighth during the race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of racing against the Korean drivers, it became immediately clear why Super 6000 is considered one of the highest levels of stock car racing in Asia. The drivers are extremely skilled, aggressive when necessary, but also very calculated and efficient with their racecraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What impressed me most was how disciplined and precise they are with their decisions on track. There are very few wasted movements or unnecessary risks. Every move is deliberate and professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the safety car restart, the conditions were quite difficult because the tire temperatures had dropped significantly during the long neutralization period. We were working to bring the tires back into the operating window during the final sector, and as the field accelerated again, I committed into the final corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, the rear stepped out aggressively on entry and once the car touched the grass, there wasn\u2019t much opportunity to recover it before the wall. Everything happened very quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the race, the team and I reviewed the onboard footage and data carefully to understand every factor involved. The Super 6000 is extremely demanding physically and mentally. The races are much longer than what I was previously used to, the cockpit temperatures are very high, and tire management becomes a huge factor throughout the race distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of that, I changed my training significantly before the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I shifted my focus away from heavy weight training and concentrated much more on endurance, heat adaptation, and mental clarity. Luckily, the Philippine summer gave me perfect conditions to prepare because temperatures were reaching around 40 degrees celsius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I spent a lot of time doing cardio work such as running, swimming, boxing, basketball, and footwork training. I also incorporated using sauna suits during cardio sessions, steam rooms, sauna sessions, and cold plunges into my routine to help adapt my body and mind to operating under extreme heat conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing I focused heavily on was visualization training. During a sauna and steam room session, I would mentally rehearse laps, think through race scenarios, and practice maintaining focus under physical stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The overall goal of my preparation was longevity. I wanted to make sure I could maintain the same level of focus, pace, and consistency from the beginning of the race until the checkered flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each Korean circuit has a very different character, which makes the championship really exciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on my experience so far, I think Korea International Circuit could potentially suit my driving style very well. I enjoy tracks that reward late apexes, smooth weight transfer, and using the balance of the car to create rotation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing that has always been important in my driving style is neutral steer and using my feet to help rotate the car. I enjoy balancing the car on entry and maximizing traction on corner exit, and I feel KIC may compliment those characteristics well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Inje Speedium also looks very interesting to me because some sections remind me slightly of Batangas Racing Circuit back home in the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, I still have a lot to learn at all of these circuits, but based on my initial impressions, I think KIC may naturally fit my driving style the most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
